Alternative TMJ Treatments
Botox treatments are a popular choice for customers who want to remove wrinkles or lines, but it’s also used for serious conditions like chronic migraines and TMJ. It’s also well known for boosting self confidence and helping customers achieve a radiant and youthful appearance.
While this may be common knowledge, many people still don’t understand what Botox actually is. Our professional and qualified team at Loop Dental is here to clarify any questions you may have.
What is Botox?
Botox is a special protein that restricts muscle contractions by blocking overactive nerve impulses. By restricting muscle contractions, Botox can be used for cosmetic reasons because it can relax any muscles under the skin that are causing unwanted wrinkles and fine lines. Since Botox also blocks overactive nerve impulses, it can also be used for a variety of medical conditions where pain or sensation need to be blocked. It is often used for TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorders, chronic migraines or to even block the uncomfortable sensation of dental implants.
Even though Botox can be used for cosmetic reasons, it still needs to prescribed by a healthcare professional. However, there is no surgical procedure or real recovery period when using Botox. The actual treatments are quite quick and comfortable. The Botox is injected into the area that a patient wants to see fewer wrinkles. Patients will typically notice their skin smoothing out and looking more youthful and radiant within a few hours. The optimal age range to get a Botox treatment is between 18 to 65 and the results usually last anywhere between one to six months. After the Botox wears off, the skin will return to it previous, untreated condition.
